Prior sensor generations

Response in fuel-cell exhaust.

NSI sensor resistance responds repeatedly to changes in fuel-cell exhaust composition. Stack voltage is shown for operating context.
Evaluation conducted at the premises of a recognized fuel-cell manufacturer. Repeated changes between air-containing and H₂/N₂-containing exhaust produce a large resistance change and recovery. Stack voltage provides operating context.

Sensor aging and durability.

Unheated sensor aging over 15 months across 1 to 75 percent RH and approximately 0 to 45 degrees Celsius. Air and 2 percent hydrogen resistance remain separated. A 100 percent RH comparison trace shows early loss of separation.
Ongoing aging study of unheated sensor elements across a range of temperature and humidity conditions, providing evidence of long-term durability. Unmitigated sensors show instability under condensing conditions.

Four sensors from a prior NSI generation showed a fast, large hydrogen response when retested after more than five years.

Real-time mapping with 240 sensors.

An earlier system prototype demonstrates spatial hydrogen response across multiple sensing points.

Strip performance in condensing conditions.

Resistance in air and 2 percent hydrogen over time for all eight sensors in a strip tested in a condensing environment with humidity mitigation.
The eight-sensor strip operates continuously in air under condensing conditions, with occasional exposure to 2% H₂. Sensor resistance is measured once per second.

Testing of mitigations for condensing conditions is ongoing and application-specific.

Long-term wireless, maintenance-free operation

LT21 battery-powered single-sensor test with wireless resistance measurements. Periodic hydrogen exposures show a large resistance change retained over the test period without sensor maintenance.
Expected battery runtime is approximately six months in the configuration shown. More efficient electronics could extend runtime to years.

This test covers one sensor and its readout circuit. Runtime for complete strips and blankets depends on the system configuration.
